Fifth Ward

Fifth Ward offers an opportunity for enterprising buyers who want to get in on the ground floor and watch their investment grow in the city’s newest cool neighborhood on the cusp of a renaissance.

Welcome to Fifth Ward

Fifth Ward (Walker’s Point) is Milwaukee’s hottest up and coming neighborhood. South of the Historic Third Ward and north of Bay View, this area of industrial land, factories, and turn-of-the-century warehouses is evolving at a rapid pace and being transformed into attractive commercial and residential spaces just minutes from downtown.

Home to the edgier artists and the gay community, the area is filling up with funky galleries, local brewers and distilleries, coffee shops, nightclubs, and antique stores among other trendy retailers and services. Fifth Ward has also become a foodie’s paradise with the latest hip restaurants, many which pride themselves with farm-to-table cuisine.

This fast-growing area has many new rental developments in the works. City streetscape projects will create the needed greenspace including trees, greenery, bike, and walking paths. The Creative Corridor project is set to develop a vibrant cultural arts and entertainment district. And in October 2016, the Freshwater Plaza broke ground. This mixed-use development is the first of many major commercial projects to come and features apartments on its upper floors with a Cermak Fresh Market grocery store and commercial space at street-level. Future plans also include a 50,000 SF office building and parking structure.

With the current affordability, forward thinkers will want to invest in this community on the verge of a boom and watch their property values rise as it grows.

Your New Neighbors

Your new neighbors in this neighborhood of approximately 8,600 residents are singles and young couples who are drawn to the real estate opportunities.

What You Will Love

Walking down the streets of the Fifth Ward you will find some of the most spectacular street art and murals. One example is the stunning freehand 65-foot mural “Bienvenidos Walker’s Point” which features images from the neighborhood and took 300 spray cans and nearly three weeks to finish. Try and find the hidden imagery the artists have included.

The hip café chain Colectivo offers locally roasted coffee and tasty eats in an urban-cool environment where you can relax, vibe, and watch people. This particular location has an extra bonus – it’s haunted. Employees have reported hearing music and the disembodied voices of children in the former foundry’s basement. So, head over and grab a coffee if you dare!

You won’t need to check your watch if you live in Fifth Ward, the Allen Bradley Clock Tower was listed in the Guinness World Book of Records as the largest non-tolling four-faced clock tower in the world. If you are lucky enough to snag an invitation for an inside tour (try a fundraiser or an employee of Rockwell Automation) you will experience one of the best views of the city.

Local Places We Love

Featuring small-batch artisan ice cream made in unique and rotating flavors from locally sourced ingredients like the 14% butterfat sweet cream base from a Wisconsin dairy, Purple Door Ice Cream is not only decadent but humanitarian. A portion of the profits from the $5 pints go to Milk for Milwaukee, which provides milk to homeless shelters.

Milwaukee’s only urban cheese factory, Clock Shadow Creamery is a cheese haven and offers tours and sampling. Be sure to try their fresh, creamy, and ultra-squeaky cheese curds and the grilled coalho cheese which is not a sandwich, but rather cheese cooked over a charcoal grill.

Drop into The Tin Widow and soak up the cozy, romantic ambiance while you soak up a delicious Tin Widow Old Fashioned or try something new from their extensive gin and whiskey collection. Lounge chairs, candles, and coffee tables in the back add to the swanky vibe along with mellow music for a relaxing evening having drinks with people you don’t mind seeing in the dark.

Offering locally-sourced seasonal new American entrees with an extensive wine list, craft beer, and custom cocktails by a mixologist – AP Bar and Kitchen is one of Walker’s Point’s favorite small plate restaurants. Be sure to bring someone who’s good at sharing.

A certified Organic roasting facility and café, the Anodyne Coffee Roasting Co. also offers craft beer and wine and hosts live music and events on Friday and Saturday nights. Care for an astrophysics presentation with your superb coffee and delicious baked goods?
